perfil biográfico

Filipe graduated in Chemistry (Analytical) from the University of Aveiro (UA, 2000), and had is Ph.D. viva in 2004 at the University of Cambridge (Peterhouse College, U.K.) under the supervision of Prof. Klinowski (Physical Chemistry) working on Metal-Organic Frameworks and Zeo-type structures. He returned to Portugal in the first half of 2004 to assume the position of Auxiliary Researcher in CICECO, starting his independent research career by establishing a new research group working on novel crystalline MOF structures and in the use X-ray crystallography to solve complex chemical problems. He is currently a Principal Investigator of the University of Aveiro and an international recognised expert on lanthanide-polyphosphonate MOFs.

With more than 380 SCI publications (>330 without his PhD supervisor), adding up to nearly 9700 citations (h-index of 45), he is the senior corresponding author in more than 140 (accumulated 5-year impact factor greater than 1600 for all publications). His research has been featured in 22 issue covers (e.g., ChemComm and ChemSocRev), 9 book chapters, co-authored more than 300 poster communications, was invited for >40 oral communications, organised 6 international events, authored 2 publications with industry and has 1 patent. He supervised graduate and undergraduate students: 8 Ph.D. (2 currently), 3 Masters, 10 post-doctoral associates (1 currently), 7 research grantees an 4 undergraduate students.

Filipe was the PI of various R&D projects and large research teams on MOFs funded by both national and synchrotron sources. He reviews projects for the National Science Centre in Poland (since 2013), and for the European Research Council (Starting Grants). He is also a co-Editor of Acta Crystallographica Section C from the International Union of Crystallography (IUCr). His scientific and academic activity is internationally recognised: Vicente de Seabra Medal (2015 - Portuguese Chemical Society), recognising scientific quality and independence of a researcher in Portugal; Muir Wood Award in Science (Peterhouse ,Univ. Cambridge, July 2004); Dow Portugal Award as the valedictorian (best student) in Chemistry (UA, 2000); two best poster prizes in IUCr conferences. He was pointed as an Emerging Investigator in Materials Science by Royal Society of Chemistry in 2014.

Filipe taught at the Univ. of Cambridge for 2 years, and at UA he has been involved in the teaching of several modules of both the Chemistry Degrees and Ph.D. Doctoral Programmes. He was the founder and President of the Chemical Crystallography Group of the Portuguese Chemical Society and is currently the President of the Inorganic and Bioinorganic Division of the same society.
